The North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit is in the midst of an investigation for the Douglas County officer involved shooting that occured on April 21. The incident occurred after an altercation in the 2500 block of Norma Lane could be heard over a 911 open line.

"At about 11:06 PM, Douglas County deputies responded to a 911 open-line from a cell phone. The cell phone belonged to a 28-year-old, male resident of the location who has been identified as the caller. The caller was involved in physical altercation inside the residence with another male and a female," said Wenatchee P.D. Captain Brian Chance.

The woman was a 33 year old resident of the location.

"At some point during the altercation, the second male, who was a guest at the residence, armed himself with a handgun," said Captain Chance. "He has been identified as 29-year-old, Thomas M. Mathes III, and was pronounced dead at the scene."

The NCW SIU has contacted all known witnesses in this case and is the process of conducting interviews. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective Sergeant Nathan Hahn with the Wenatchee Police Department at (509)888-4251.

The NCW SIU, for this incident, is comprised of detectives from the Wenatchee Police Department, Chelan County Sheriff’s Office, and Washington State Patrol.
