The city of Moses Lake has deemed July and August conservation months for the city per a city ordinance. In 2018, the city adopted the ordinance and in doing so, implements an odd, even day watering schedule for property owners.

The water conservation ordinance is in place because water pumps were previously unable to maintain the levels necessary for fire protection.

"Watering nonstop also drops the water levels in the aquifer and does not allow time for the aquifer to recharge or recover to normal levels.," said Lynne Lynch, communications specialist. "Here's a few tips, water your lawn during the cooler time of the day, every other day. Leave your grass longer and that provides shade to the soil, thus retaining moisture. A good height would be 3-4 inches."

Folks are also encouraged to sweep up dirt and grime instead of washing it away and repair dripping faucets or running toilets.
