The House of Representatives passed a resolution Thursday to authorize the ongoing impeachment inquiry of President Trump, including open hearings.

4th District Representative Dan Newhouse, a Republican, released a statement shortly after the vote, saying:

“I will not vote to rubberstamp the House Democrats’ closed-door impeachment hearings. The process approved today by House Democrats keeps Members of Congress and the millions of Americans they represent in the dark. This resolution greenlights a flawed, unprecedented process that gives Chairman Schiff complete control, continues to limit the ability of Republicans to fully participate in hearings, and denies basic due process rights to the president and his counsel. I voted against the resolution because the American people deserve transparent and fair proceedings.”

8th District Representative Kim Schrier, a Democrat, also released a statement regarding the vote. She said:

“Today’s vote lays out the next steps and lets the American people know what they can expect going forward, including public hearings and underlying evidence. What we’ve seen thus far suggests that our President abused the power of his office for personal gain and put himself above the law. I have said all along that we all deserve to know what happened. I am glad to see we are moving forward in a fair, transparent way. No one is above the law.”
