The Washington State Department of Health announced Friday that more than 1 million users activated the COVID exposure notification app WA Notify in just it's first four days.

That number represents roughly 19% of adults in the state. More Washington residents opted to use the technology within the first 24 hours than any other state using this type of app.

The voluntary app is the product of a joint effort between Google and Apple, and it uses a Bluetooth signal emitted by smartphones to detect and remember interactions. The app reportedly does not store or share any personal information, track your location, track which WA Notify users were notified, or provide any personal information to developers or the Department of Health.
