Our Valley Our Future opted to tweak its awards ceremony this year by tacking on a documentary screening of 'Twisp: The Power of Community' during the event. The awards social is on March 25 at Pybus Public Market.

"Last year we did an award ceremony for the first time. We gave awards to folks that are contributing big time to this community and Our Valley Our Future," said Steve Maher, OVOF project coordinator. "We're also going to add screening of 'Twisp: The Power of Community', it's a documentary. It's all about what's happened up in Twisp, all the community building that they've done up there. It's pretty remarkable."

The film uses 40 minutes to explore the Twisp community's quality that enable the town to thrive and use the question 'In a society that seems increasingly polarized and confrontational, how do some communities manage to get along?' to steer the narrative. Filmmaker, Leslee Goodman, will be at the event alongside the documentary.

"It's going to be a really fascinating evening," said Maher.

The event starts at 5:30 with beverages and hors d'oeuvres followed by the award ceremony at 6 p.m. which will lead to the showing of Twisp at 6:20 p.m. A panel discussion will wrap up the event after the screening so those that attend can share what the Wenatchee Valley can learn from the Twisp community.

"It's going to be turning the tables a little bit because a lot of folks always turn to the Wenatchee area and say 'look at all the great things you guys are doing there' and this time we're turning the tables and saying 'What can we learn from Twisp?'," said Maher.

There is no cost to attend the event.
