A small brush fire garnered a big response Wednesday afternoon near the 1700 block of the Malaga-Alcoa Highway.

PIO Kay McKellar said several local engines were called to the fire, CWICC was notified and aerial support was requested just before 3:45pm.

Ultimately the helicopter and any late-arriving engines were cancelled when the fire was knocked down around 4:00 pm.

"They had a lot of units going because of the wind and how dry it is out there." said McKellar, "It's easier to turn them around than it is to get them going when you're trying to save a house."

A nearby structure was threatened but was not damaged by the 60 foot by 20 foot fire.

The cause is under investigation.
