The Washington State Patrol is reminding drivers and those who frequent the Stevens Pass area that parking on the side of Highway 2 is prohibited in the area from November 1st to April 1st.

Trooper Jeremy Weber said cars will be towed from two miles east of the pass (milepost 66.44) to roughly 6 miles west of Stevens (milepost 58.50).

"What happens, especially with skiers coming in, is the parking lots get full and the cars start to park on the side of the (highway)." explained Weber, "Cars will be towed, it's happened before. People come back from skiing and their car is gone."

Additional "Tow Away Zone" signs have been placed along the corridor for the safety of skiers and motorists. People improperly parking can also interfere with avalanche control operations and could endanger highway maintenance personnel.
