Pearl Hill-Cold Springs Canyon Fire Nearing 175,000 Acres
The Pearl Hill and Cold Springs Canyon fire grew to more than 174-thousand acres Monday when the fire jumped the Columbia River and spread into Douglas County after starting in Okanogan County.
Type 3 Incident Management Team PIO Ben Shearer says they have lost structures but did not have specifics.
"The wind kind of died down overnight which we were expecting so we had crews out there on the fire lines trying to get some containment lines at least started. I haven't gotten a full report yet on how that has gone other than the fire has slowed quite a bit from what it was doing [Monday]."
A Type 2 team is expected to take control of the fire Tuesday with resources from across the state and from the federal government responding.
Shearer says they will bring more resources.
"With the weather events that are being forecasted into later [Tuesday], the red flag warnings continuing as well, crazy winds that the National Weather Service is predicting; we're not really sure where this fire is going to end up, so we're just trying to get as many resources as we can on the fire to get some containment lines built."
Aircraft were unable to assist in the fight due to the high winds that were in the area.
Level 3 Evacuation Notices have been issued to City of Bridgeport and Bridgeport Bar area now. Residents are being directed to leave towards Brewster and contact the Red Cross, (509) 670-5331, if they require shelter assistance.
Level 3 Evacuations are also being for all of McNeil Canyon Road, Road 20 NW, Road D NW and Crane Orchard Road, from SR 173 to the road end.
