Pearl Hill and Apple Acres Fires Nearing Total Containment
The Pearl Hill Fire grew a little bit Saturday night with some fire activity in the Bridgeport Bar area near the Brewster bridge and it is now approaching 223,730 acres.
Spokesperson for the Management Team Wayne Patterson says they have received help from the smoke however and they're up to 80% containment.
"It's moderating the temperatures. We're getting 10 degrees less in the smoke than under the sun which is normal. The humidities are staying up in the upper 20s and with the temperature down and the humidity up we see a lot less fire activity and our firefighters are making a lot of headway."
A Level 3 evacuation order in the northwest portion of the fire has been reduced to a Level 2 and some roads have reopened.
Patterson says they are a little concerned about the northwest corner of the fire in the Bridgeport Bar area which was challenging when winds picked up.
"The fire line that they put in there two days ago up by Brideport Bar ended up holding really well despite that fire pushing it."
Air resources have started being released to other fires along with the West Coast with those that remain expected to leave Monday.
The Apple Acres fire is 95% contained with mostly patrol and mopup work happening.
It is about 5,753 acres with the south end the only area of concern..
