The Chelan Douglas Regional Port Authority has decided to give S.P.O.R.T Gymnastics one more chance at getting their proposed $2 million multi-use activity center project off of the ground.

CEO Jim Kuntz stated that the Port has extended multiple deadlines for S.P.O.R.T., who are looking to convert three warehouse buildings at Columbia Street and Orondo Avenue into an athletic adventure area with batting cages and a roof-top bar.

"What we have found is that they have spent in excess of $200,000 in architectural services and engineering services." explained Kuntz, "So there has been quite a bit of financial commitment by this group."

Under the new agreement, S.P.O.R.T. will need a building permit from the city by March 1st of 2022. If the group receives the permit, they will be required to proceed to closing and purchase the property.

Kuntz said that the pandemic environment and the delays it has caused has slowed down projects like the activity center. He added that in general the Port needs to have some sensitivity to the complicated environment.
