A surge in COVID cases among key City of East Wenatchee employees is forcing the closure of City Hall to the public for at least the rest of the week.

Mayor Jerrilea Crawford said city business can still be conducted online or over the phone, although you may need to leave a message.

"I don't want to inconvenience our community with being closed." stated Crawford, "I know we have folks who are coming in to submit their low-income discount for Waste Management services. We have people working on building permits that need service."

While city employees are running under the assumption City Hall will be back open Monday, if staffing doesn't improve the closure could continue into next week. The city will give notice if there is a closure Monday or beyond.

The police department and municipal court windows will remain open for the time being, as will the East Wenatchee Library. Essential services will also still be operational.
