As the New Year holiday nears, the State Fire Marshal's Office issues a reminder of legal discharge rules for fireworks. Fireworks can be legally purchased now until December 31st between noon and 11 p.m. only.

"As we head into the holiday, people will certainly want to celebrate the end of this year and welcome in the new year," said Deputy State Fire Marshal Robert Wittenberg.

Per state law, fireworks can only be discharged from 6 p.m. on the 31st until 1 a.m. on January 1st.

"Local areas may have their own restrictions and in terms of the sale and discharge, we encourage residents to check with local jurisdictions," said Wittenberg
