A contractor for the Washington State Department of Transportation will begin a paving project on US 2 east of the Stevens Pass summit Monday.

Communications Manager Lauren Loebsack said Interstate Concrete and Asphalt Company will repair guardrails and resurface the roadway between Berne and Merritt.

Loebsack said, "There will be some flagger-controlled traffic with a pilot car. You will have the usual paving project work. It might be kind of an expanded work zone that you would be stopped at, then moved through, one direction at a time."

Travelers can expect delays up to 20 minutes when crews are working Monday through Friday during daylight hours.

The project is scheduled to finish in early August.
