East Wenatchee police and Eastmont School District have launched an investigation after two 12 year old males brought weapons to Sterling Intermediate School Thursday. The weapons were a 5” fixed blade hunting knife and an Airsoft replica handgun.

The two juveniles were booked into Chelan County Juvenile Center Thursday night.

According to Sgt. James Marshall, Sterling administrators initially contacted RiverCom dispatch and requested police presence while having a discussion with two students who had been reported to have brought 'a gun and knife' to school. It was determined the kids had brought the weapons earlier in the week and had no weapons on them Thursday.

"With school events there's a lot of people to interview and at this age level things get around really fast so there's a lot of follow up investigation to do," said Sgt. Marshall.

The motive is unknown as the investigation is ongoing. However, discipline from Eastmont School District could be long term for both students.

"Here at Eastmont, the safety of our students and staff is our top priority," said Spencer Taylor, Executive Director of Elementary Education. "At this time, we're still gathering information before we make that decision, but the students will not be on campus anytime soon."
