The two year anniversary is nearing for Governor Jay Inslee's declaration of an emergency order in response to COVID. Governor Inslee made the emergency order declaration on February 29, 2020.

According to 12th District Representative Mike Steele, he's received thousands of emails from constituents expressing the impact of the emergency order and raising concerns about Inslee's powers.

"This is not a partisan issue. If this were a Republican governor doing the same thing, I would call for their powers to be limited as well," said Representative Steele. "The legislature is elected by the people to represent the people. We need to be able to do our job and we haven't been able to effectively do our job for the last two years because the governor continues yield power without welding."

Rep. Steele adds legislators have spent the last two years working to reduce the governor's powers and the related Senate Bill floating in the current legislative session doesn't do enough. To read about Senate Bill 5909, visit here.
