A heat advisory is in effect for our region until Thursday evening.

National Weather Service Meteorologist Miranda Cote said Wednesday's forecasted high of 99 degrees has a 75% chance of breaking the previous record of 96 degrees, set in 1986.

"Overall, we're having this strong high-pressure area build up over the region that's pumping in all this hot air and bringing this really warm weather with these heat advisories that are going on." explained Cote, "It will start to moderate as we go into later this week as a cold front moves in."

The cold front will drop temperatures and also bring with it higher winds, which could increase fire concerns.

Cote advises limiting time in the afternoon sun, especially for those more at-risk populations like children, the elderly and pets.
