The Wenatchee city pool will be open to visitors starting June 12, right on the heels of school wrapping up for local students. The pool will be open until mid-August and operate Monday through Saturday.

The state Department of Health has issued guidelines for the pool to follow. The guidelines for pool visitors could fluctuate as the county moves through phases.

"We have to do distancing and that has impacted, virtually, every program, both while you're in the water and on deck," said Dave Erickson, Wenatchee Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services director. "For swim lessons, normally we might have 6 to 8 kids in a lesson...now we're only going to have three in each class We've expanded the lesson program out and have added additional swim lesson times."

Swim lessons, doggy paddle swim, family swims and lap swims will be underway with the pool's reopening, just with a capped number of participants for distancing. Open swims in the afternoon have been converted into family swim time where families can reserve a block of the pool.

The city's Splash Pad at Rotary Park, with overhead water features and a giant mushroom, and the city wading pool will have a different approach this year in response to COVID-19 guidelines. The pools will still operate on the same schedule as previous years, Monday through Friday 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Folks will have to reserve a time for both the Splash Pad and the wading pool.

"You'll be able to go into the wading pool in a certain section, because we have to limit the interaction within the wading pool so we're going to have small fences in the middle of the wading pool to segregate it out in four quadrants," said Erickson.

The Splash Pad will operate similarly.
