Ukrainian Refugees coming to Wenatchee will get the financial support of almost $22,000 in charity donations.

The money comes from a benefit concert Sunday by the choir group GladSong at Grace Lutheran Church that drew 300 people.

The free-will offering show took in public donations, and ended with a group of Ukrainians, including children, singing their country's national anthem.

The organization Friends of Ukraine Refugees says 30 Ukraine refugees, in four families, from the Ukraine-Russia war have located in Wenatchee within the last two months, some within the last two weeks, she said. Another 40 in seven families are in Moses Lake and Soap Lake.

It says that, including money from the concert, it's raised about $50,000 and is seeking grants toward a goal of $1 million to help with resettlement of Ukrainians in Central Washington.

Kay Fisher, fundraising co-chair of Friends of Ukraine Refugees, said the Sunday show left strong impression on those who attended.

“People were really touched at the concert," Fisher said.  "The Ukrainians wanted it to last longer. They really enjoyed the sense of community that it brought to them."

GladSong’s next free-will offering concert will benefit the homeless shelter Wenatchee Rescue Mission, formerly Hospitality House on Sunday, June 12, at Calvary Bible Church.
