A Winthrop native will represent Team USA in the upcoming Winter Olympics in Beijing.

U.S. Ski & Snowboard announced its nominations for the U.S. Olympic Cross Country Team, and included among the 14 athletes was 20-year-old Novie McCabe of the Methow Valley Nordic Team. This is McCabe's first Olympics.

In a statement via U.S. Olympics, McCabe said, “I am super excited! The Olympics have always been the dream and it’s surreal to have actually made the team! Going into this season I was very uncertain of what it would hold, but it’s been full of so many great experiences and it’s pretty hard to believe that I also get to go to the Olympics. Just overall, I’m feeling quite happy about things and very thankful for everyone who has helped make all of it possible!”

Olympians were selected based upon World Cup results, World Cup rankings, SuperTour results and the recently completed U.S. Cross Country Championships.

The 2022 Olympic Games will feature twelve cross country events, six of which are women's. The Beijing Olympics start February 4th, with cross-country beginning February 5th.
