Apples Turn from Revenue to Applesauce After Semi Driver Mistake Tuesday

A semi lost a load of apples on US 2/ Highway 97 about three miles south of Orondo in Douglas County Tuesday just after 3:00 pm.

Trooper John Bryant said the driver, 54-year-old Brenton Huwe of Richland, claimed he was reaching down to get a drink of water when he lost control of the semi, traveling off of the roadway and spilling apples out of the open bins.

"Twenty-four bins, about a thousand apples, all over the roadway. Of course getting squished by cars and all those things too. He was cited for wheels off roadway and distracted driving," explained Bryant.

There were no injuries. The road was closed for about an hour.
