Chelan County Fair Returns After 2020 Hiatus
Sunny skies beckoned crowds back to the Chelan County Fairgrounds in Cashmere this weekend. After rain showers on Friday and the cancellation of the 2020 Fair due to COVID, Fair Manager Karen Welch was happy to see families return this weekend "I think they were just happy that they could get back to having the Chelan County Fair and coming out to visit us"
The Fair is a tradition for the Hoya family from Cashmere and they were glad the fair was back. "We all missed it, it's something we look forward to every year. We were born and raised here and have been coming all our lives so it's awesome to come and show the kids" The family raises five head of cattle on their property near the fairgrounds so they know their kids and most area children are familiar with where food comes from but some kids in large cities may be less aware of the link between agriculture and the supermarket.
Light rain showers fell Friday but not enough to force a cancellation of concert headliner Jerrod Nieman's performance. Skies cleared for the weekend schedule of events including the PRCA Rodeo events Saturday and Sunday. "People were anxious to see these PRCA Rodeo caliber cowboys at the Chelan County Fair" said Welch.
Official attendance figures were not available but on Saturday afternoon parking lots were near capacity.
