Chelan County Sheriff’s Deputy Arrest Battery Thief

The Chelan County Sheriff's Office arrested a Malaga man late Tuesday night on charges of stealing heavy equipment batteries and trying to sell them online.

The theft was reported off Colockum Road in Malaga when a Selland Construction truck had nine batteries taken overnight Monday.

It was the second theft of batteries in that same area. Deputies located a Facebook post offering to sell the same kind of battery and contacted the seller, 28-year-old Wade Hawkins.

They arranged a meeting to buy the batteries and arrested Hawkins without incident.

During a search warrant, they found most of the batteries or evidence of what happened to them with only four unaccounted for.

Hawkins was booked on multiple charges.
