Chelan Douglas Community Action Council was one of 2,000 applicants that State Farms selected for its competition for grant funding, State Farm Neighborhood Assist.

The action council is one of 200 participating in the competition and the top 40 with the most votes gets a $25,000 grant.

"Our plan is to use that $25,000 to further our mobile food pantry, which is almost finished being built," said Kristi Hills, deputy director.

The North Central Accountable Communities of Health awarded the council a large grant in 2019 for the mobile food pantry.

"We now have a truck, the tiny home trailer is almost built so the actual unit is about ready," said Hills. "Our plan is to take that mobile food pantry out in the food deserts of our area."

The mobile food pantry will head to areas that have limited access to grocery stores or lacking reliable transportation.

Folks can vote up to 10 votes per day from September 23 until October 2. Folks can vote here.
