City of Wenatchee Set to Complete Demolition of WSDOT Buildings by Third Week of August
The city of Wenatchee is set to finish the demolition of the Washington State Department of Transportation buildings on North Wenatchee Avenue soon. Despite obstacles cropping up over the course of the process, the demolition is likely to be wrapped up by the end of the week of August 8.
"They didn't go down easy, they're deep underground," said Mayor Frank Kuntz. "We're just starting to plan for how to put that back together in terms of a roadway system and retail activity."
The parcel of land is eight acres and according to Mayor Kuntz, several retailers and restaurants, including national chains, are interested in the area. A development plan is set to be completed within the next year.
"McKitterick Street going over the railroad tracks, heading toward East Wenatchee, everything to the left has been spoken for," said Kuntz.
Smitty's Restaurant, Sav-Mart and Hooked on Toys are local businesses that have claimed vacant parcels.
