Jerrilea Crawford took the Oath of Office at Tuesday night's city council meeting to officially become East Wenatchee's next mayor.

The city's outgoing mayor, Steve Lacy, administered the oath and admitted the experience brought upon a strange feeling after 22 years at the city's helm.

"It feels a little weird." Lacy said, "These employees, particularly, here at the City of East Wenatchee; they're like my family. It's kind of like giving control of your family to someone else. It's not exactly like that, but it's the best analogy I can come up with. It feels a little weird."

Crawford is the second woman to become mayor in East Wenatchee's history. Former mayor Dawn Collings was defeated by Lacy in 1997.

For what it's worth, Crawford also expressed varied feelings during the oath.

"Well I was really looking forward to it but I actually got nervous right at the end." Crawford said, "Saying it out loud makes it really official, which is exciting but a little nerve-wracking."

Crawford added that she was eager to get started, and she just hopes she can do half as good of a job as Lacy has done.

Jerrilea Crawford will officially begin her term as East Wenatchee's twelfth mayor January 1st, 2020.
