Boaters are invited to take advantage of the free vessel inspection service offered by the Douglas County Sheriff's office. Due to the Coast Guard not having any local auxiliary stations, the sheriff's office is paid via State Parks to conduct the service.

"There's a marine unit on the water during the summer on the weekends and is available to do Coast Guard Marine safety inspections," said Marine Deputy Sam Tonseth. "We're more than willing to do those before the season, after the season."

Deputy Tonseth added the sheriff's office is willing to do this also in garages and front yards, wherever a boat is located. To contact him for the service, email stonseth@co.douglas.wa.us or call (509) 668-5228.
