Drive Prepared When On Forest Service Roads This Winter

With snow falling and Thanksgiving only two weeks away, it appears winter is approaching. Folks looking to explore the outdoors this winter should be prepared before hitting the road, especially on Forest Service roads.

"Expect winter conditions at higher elevation trails and trailheads, be prepared and carry the proper gear for winter mountain travel and camping," said Robin DeMario, public information officer. "Always check the avalanche forecast."

Those adventuring out should pack their vehicle with a small shovel, extra clothes, a blanket or a sleeping bag, extra food and water.

"If you still need to get your winter supply of firewood, be sure to check the weather forecast before heading to the woods," said DeMario.

DeMario advises to always let someone know where you're going and when you plan to come home.
