An early morning fire Tuesday displaced three adults and two dogs from their home on the 300 block of Pennsylvania Ave in Wenatchee.

Chelan County Fire District 1 PIO Kay McKellar says the call came in just after midnight.

"Everyone was out and the animals were accounted for. There was smoke and flames showing and crews began an attack on the house. It was pretty much confined to the attic and they did have to go onto the roof to open it up."

Douglas County Fire District 2 assisted in the attack.

The house was too damaged to permit the residents back in, so the Red Cross was called in to find temporary shelter.

"The crews did assist the folks with getting some of their items out. The fire was contained basically to the chimney but there was extensive damage with water and the roof."

The cause is under investigation.

Crews were able to leave after about four hours of battling the blaze and then setting a watch on the home.
