FEMA Money Now Available for Twenty Five Mile Fire at Lake Chelan

The Federal Emergency Management Agency is now allowing the use of federal money to help battle the Twenty-Five Mile Fire at Lake Chelan.

FEMA Acting Administrator Vince Maykovich has determined the fire could cause a major disaster.

The money comes as more than 770 buildings are threatened with some type of evacuation notice from the fire.

Ryan Rudrock with the fire management team says firefighters are focused on trying to protect homes from being destroyed.

"We're working really hard to secure a lot of those containment lines, and punch in new containment lines as the opportunities present themselves, and get this fire put in a box," said Rudrock.

The Twenty Five Mile Fire is now burning a large area from Lake Chelan State Park northward on the lake's west side.

Rudrock said the fire may spread to the south and east.

Level 3 (Go Now) evacuations are in place for all homes and buildings north of Cove Marina on South Lakeshore Road, as well as for the area around Granite Falls Road, and for 1st Creek Road west of Lakeshore.

Lakeshore Road is closed from Cove Marina northward past the the Twenty Five Mile Drainage.

There are Level 2 (Get Set) evacuations are in place from Cove Marina south to Morning Sun Drive. Level 1 (Get Ready) evacuations are in place south of the Granite Falls area.

A forest closure is also being considered.
