Chelan County Fire District 1 responded to fire inside of a duplex in the 1100 block of First Street in Wenatchee around 1:40 Thursday morning.

PIO Kay McKellar said crews arrived to find a bed in the living room on fire and evacuated the residence before knocking down the flames.

"The determination was that the fire was started from an electrical cord that was attached to a heating device. It was possibly an overload. An extension cord that wasn't strong enough for the heather started the fire," said McKellar.

There were no injuries.

The damage was contained to the living room. The residence was ventilated, and the Red Cross provided a place for the family to stay overnight.

McKellar added that local fire districts have seen an increase in heater-related fires as of late.
