A 21-year-old Chelan man is in custody after reportedly breaking into a house in the 600 block of Markeson Street just before midnight Tuesday.

Chief Jason Reinfeld said the suspect fled the home after a woman in the residence discovered him. Deputies followed some footprints in the area and were able to locate the suspect. He was found to be in the possession of items stolen from the residence, as well as methamphetamine.

"This is a good eye-opener for the public. Be sure to lock your doors." Reinfeld said, "Just because you haven't had any burglaries in your neighborhood doesn't mean you won't. Also be sure to lock your vehicle, and keep valuable items out of sight."

The unnamed suspect was booked into the Chelan County Jail for charges including residential burglary, possession of a controlled substance, and theft.

He was also found with several items that did not belong to the residence he was discovered in. The Sheriff's Office is asking anyone in the Chelan area that have items missing to contact RiverCom Dispatch at (509) 663-9911.
