Grant County Solid Waste, along with the Washington State Department of Ecology, will be holding a free household hazardous waste collection event for county residents Saturday, May 1st from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. The event will be held at the Grant County Road District #2 shop at 12171 Road 3 Northeast in Moses Lake.

Organizers are asking for household waste only and it must be in the trunk of a car or pickup bed. No containers larger than 5 gallons, and containers will not be returned.

Items that will be accepted include:

  • Oil based paint
  • Oil stain
  • Latex paint
  • Adhesives
  • Rechargeable batteries,
  • Lithium batteries
  • Aerosols
  • Paint thinners
  • Household cleaners
  • Corrosives
  • Pesticides
  • Herbicides
  • Photo chemicals
  • Pool/spa chemicals
  • Old gasoline
  • Road flares
  • Elemental mercury
  • Fire extinguishers
  • All mercury-containing lights
  • Mercury thermometers and thermostats
  • Antifreeze,
  • Brake Fluid
  • Waste oil if contaminated with brake fluid, brake cleaner, antifreeze, solvents, carburetor cleaner, water, or degreasers.

Residents are asked to not bring these items (additional items may be rejected):

  • Used oil
  • Auto batteries
  • Cylinders
  • Alkaline batteries
  • Propane tanks
  • Sharps
  • Swollen or damaged lithium rechargeable batteries
  • Ammunition
  • Medications
  • Explosives
  • Empty containers
  • Agricultural waste
  • Commercial waste
