The Grant County Sheriff's Office is warning the public about another scam after an Ephrata resident lost $800 recently.

They say someone called the victim using a spoofed, or fake, phone number and claimed that they needed to pay fines or they would go to jail. A return call to the number would confirm its from the Grant County Jail. Money was then transferred via an untraceable method.

This is a scam.

The Department says government agencies will not call you on the phone or send you a text message and demand money.

If you have any questions, call the publicly available number for the agency allegedly involved.
