The Hale Park skate park ribbon cutting ceremony was Tuesday evening at 5:30 p.m. The skate park was a feature that was requested by the community and the skate park exemplifies community feedback taken and developed into a project.

"Today we're taking another step forward with the completion of Hale Park with the opening of the skate park portion of the park," said Dave Erickson, Parks and Recreation director.

The development of that Hale Park project started in 2013 when the property was donated to the city. According to Erickson, the city reached out for community feedback on what features should be installed in the project for folks to enjoy. The community requested a skate park so the city applied to state grants and were successful in landing them in 2016.

"This is the first really new, big skate park we've had since the 1980s. So this will be a great addition to the park and hopefully will bring some additional excitement to the area," said Erickson.

As for the rest of phase two features, which includes restrooms, a picnic shelter and a kids play area - those elements will becoming on the heels of the skate park, this next spring.
