The North Central Washington Special Investigation Unit (NCW SIU) announced Thursday that it has concluded its investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Douglas County last year that left one individual dead.

Wenatchee Captain Brian Chance stated that the investigation has been forwarded to the county prosecutor for review.

"There is an extensive amount of information that will need to be reviewed. The Douglas County Prosecuting Attorney will make sure that that review is very thorough." said Chance, "That review is going to take some time."

Deputy Nicholas English responded to an altercation April 21st, 2020 between three people in the 2500 block of Norma Lane. During the altercation, 29-year-old Thomas M. Mathes III armed himself with a handgun and was shot and killed by English.

English was 26 years old at the time and had roughly 3 years of experience in law enforcement, having joined the Douglas County Sheriff's Office as a rookie in 2017.

The NCW SIU, for this incident, was comprised of detectives from the Wenatchee Police Department, Chelan County Sheriff's Office and Washington State Patrol.
