A major snow storm will be passing through the higher elevations of North Central Washington this weekend.

Meteorologist Jennifer Simmons with the National Weather Service says it's heading east off the coast and is setting up perfectly to dump heavy amounts on two mountain passes.

“The Puget Sound convergence zone is starting to target Stevens Pass, and then further into the weekend, it’s going to be targeting a little further south, which will be Snoqualmie,” said Simmons.

Stevens Pass could get a foot of snow, while Snoqualmie Pass could get two feet this weekend. Both passes could see 1-2 inches of snow per hour during the storm.

Simmons says it's an unusual weather system because it's the type of storm we would normally get in January, not April.

There'll be little to no precipitation at lower elevations in the region.

Wind is a factor Friday in the Wenatchee area, and in areas including Moses Lake and Soap Lake where wind speeds of 40 mph or greater could bring blowing dust.
