City of Leavenworth is holding a public hearing on a possible new code chapter, an Affordable Housing grant and loan program.

The hearing is scheduled for February 11 at 6:45 in City Hall. The chapter is developed to be consistent with previous council resolutions over a span of 20 plus years.

"The grant and loan program was established by state law many years ago and has been used by the city in 1997, 2000, 2002 and again last year," said Lilith Vespier, development services manager.

In 2019, the program was used toward the Garten Haus senior housing project for renovations and expansions.

"Our intent is to make sure the public is aware this is an option available and encourage people to meet the criteria," said Vespeir. "You have to be a 501C3, tax exempt organization, but the money is available as its needed. We hope people will make requests."

For those interested in attending the hearing, folks can brief themselves on the proposed amendments and previous council resolutions via copies from City Hall or electronically by contacting Vespier.
