Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation and Confluence Health Foundation have formed a joint effort to build the first radiation treatment center in Moses Lake. Columbia Basin based cancer patients currently have to trek out the county to either Confluence Health or Seattle, Spokane and the Tri-Cities to receive treatment.

"Radiation can be every day for, depending on your cancer and treatment regimen, 15 to 30 days in a row," said Angel Ledesma, Columbia Basin Cancer Foundation executive director.

The project between the partners kicked off two years ago and the campaign has raised $3.5 million to put toward the state of the art radiation treatment facility. Confluence Health Foundation will provide $3.5 million to complete the $7 million project when the first $3.5 million has been raised in the community.

"It'll keep the cost of traveling and having cancer down," said Ledesma. "Our goal is to keep our clients closer to home."
