The heads of Wenatchee and East Wenatchee police as well as the Chelan and Douglas County Sheriff's departments are letting the public know that they are taking substantial steps to address gang violence, especially in schools.

The North Central Washington Law Enforcement Leadership Group is currently Douglas County Sheriff Kevin Morris, Chelan County Sheriff Brian Burnett, East Wenatchee Police Department Chief Rick Johnson and Wenatchee Police Department Chief Steve Crown.

The four members released a statement Wednesday saying they acknowledge the recent increase in gang violence locally and are coordinating with law enforcement and school officials. There will also be an increase in law enforcement at upcoming community events.

The release states that investigators have gathered additional information on local gang members and associates, and as they investigate gang activity they will make arrests as appropriate.
