The Moses Lake School District says no money from its Renewal Levy, which is on the ballot Tuesday, will be used on Critical Race Theory.

It says there's been concern the levy will be used to introduce Critical Race Theory and Comprehensive Sexual Education into classrooms.

The district says the levy is only used on programs in athletics, technology and extracurricular activities.

The Tuesday election will decide whether the levy, known as the Educational Programs and Operations (EP&O) levy, from 2018 will be renewed for another three years.

It was originally approved by voters to pay for portions of programs not covered by the state for athletics, technology, extracurricular programs and support staff.

The Moses Lake district's web site has bold red lettering in italics that reads: "To clarify, the district is NOT implementing or funding any Critical Race Theory training, curriculum, or implementation. The district is also NOT purchasing new sexual education materials."

Earlier this month, the Wenatchee School District released a statement saying it would not be teaching Critical Race Theory.

The Wenatchee district posted its "position statement" online after numerous candidate for the upcoming school board election emerged on a platform opposing Critical Race Theory.

The district said a new law passed by the state legislature is being misrepresented, and does not require schools to teach the concept.

The Wenatchee district also said some people are using terminology like CRT in ways that are" confusing or just plain wrong."
