4th District Representative Dan Newhouse was part of a group of Republicans that traveled down to El Paso, Texas Friday in order to investigate the ongoing crisis at the U.S.-Mexico border.

Newhouse participated in a roundtable discussion with local ranchers and farmers, toured the nearby central processing center and port of entry, and visited an unaccompanied minor facility.

"Interestingly, not pointing fingers at our local media, but (in terms of) national media, you're really not hearing anything about the crisis at the border these days. The first several months of the year, that's all you saw." commented Newhouse, "But it's crickets out there now."

Newhouse says he was thankful he had to opportunity to speak with local farmers and ranchers, people he describes as those who are experiencing the country's immigration problems day and night. The Sunnyside Republican said he's confident they were able to get an unvarnished look at the situation, which included obvious gaps in the area's fencing.

During the visit, Newhouse also spoke to law enforcement and border patrol officials. He stated that they told him migrants are now crossing at a much higher rate because of the Biden Administration's policies.
