The Biden Administration and Congressional Democrats are continuing to assemble a $2.3 trillion infrastructure package while the members of the Senate GOP indicated this week they could support a much-reduced bill.

4th District Representative Dan Newhouse said that in the last 14 months Congress has injected about $6 trillion into the economy and Americans need to be mindful of the $28 trillion in debt we've amassed.

"These are all important things I guess, at least the argument can be made. But how do we pay for all of this? How do we come up with the funds to cover the credit card charges this county is making on these things? That's the critical question that needs to be answered," stated Newhouse.

The Sunnyside Republican Newhouse said that although the list of federally-funded capital projects remains fluid, there is some opportunity for the Apple Capital Loop package, which includes the Confluence Parkway, in the Transportation Committee. In fact, Newhouse has been partnering with 8th District Democrat Kim Schrier in an attempt to get the package over the finish line.

Newhouse added that he expects a contentious partisan battle over the federal infrastructure plan and stated that only 10% of legislation actually focuses on infrastructure.
