Okanogan County Public Health says a child died from the flu, the first death from influenza in the County this season.

In a statement OCPH Community Health Director, Lauri Jones said, “The flu strain currently circulating in our county and over the last several weeks is predominantly Influenza B, which has particularly hit our young people hard. We are deeply saddened for the family and their loss.”

Jones did not detail any information about the child, or when the death occurred.

This is the fifth flu-related death in Washington during the current season.

Okanogan County Public Health says the best defense against the flu is to get vaccinated.
