4th District Representative Dan Newhouse has been busy recently, attempting to push legislation addressing the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women crisis, known as Savanna's Act.

The Sunnyside Republican met with members of Yakima Nation, a chairman of a natural resources subcommittee, the chairman of the full natural resources committee and a judiciary subcommittee chairman in Washington, D.C. this week.

Hoping to turn awareness into legislative action, Newhouse used what's called a 'special order' to feature participants from all over the country.

"The special order gives us a full hour of floor time in the House of Representatives." explained Newhouse, "You can use it to talk about anything you want. It can be one person utilizing that whole 60 minutes (or multiple people). I could have just stood up there and talked the whole time myself, but I chose to allow other members of Congress to come to the floor and present their case as well."

The congressman stated that he still believed it is critical for members of appropriate committees to come out to Washington State for a field hearing on the issue.

Newhouse added that he believed legislation like Savanna's Act was being held up in the House of Representatives because of all the attention being paid to the presidential impeachment inquiry.
