Safeway Albertsons Pharmacies Offer At Home COVID Tests

Safeway Albertsons pharmacies in Washington State have rolled out an at home COVID-19 testing option for roughly $140. The tests use saliva rather than a nose swab, so folks spit in a test tube at home and can expect results within 72 hours of the lab receiving the sample.

Folks are expected to send it in within 24 hours for timely results.

According to director of pharmacy, David Green, after pilot testing, this option was optimal for folks planning on traveling to see family in the near future.

"The other thing I heard...businesses can buy some to have some around for your employees or even just in your own family," said Green. "You don't have to use the test right away."

The timeline starts once the sample is in the test tube, but the expiration on the test itself is good, according to Green.
