Slidewaters in Chelan Opens for Season

Slidewaters in Chelan opened Saturday despite warnings from the Chelan-Douglas Heath District that they were not cleared and could be at risk for ramifications.

Co-owner Robert Bordner says they were signed off to open because of their health and safety plan.

"We believe that we're in the right and that we're operating a safe park. That everyone that comes here, with the guidelines and the policies that we've set up, that everyone is as safe as possible. That's the best that we can do. I believe that the Health Department saw that last week when they came and inspected and signed us off on that."

Bordner says they are limited to 50% capacity and preaching the practices of being thoughtful, helpful and respectful.

"We're not just coming in here, vigilante and life is normal. It's different, it's hard, but it's what we need to do."

He says it's important to come out only if you are not sick, or have not been exposed to COVID-19 or show symptoms.

He also noted the visitors can help the situation by practice good sanitary habits like frequent washing of hands, covering coughs and sneezes, amongst others.

And finally he said be respectful to other visitors in the park if they ask for more space or have a different comfort level.

Bordner says they provide employment for a variety of people who need it, but also a benefit to the community.

"We're providing a place for families to come, enjoy each other's company, make memories and strengthen those family units."

The Health-District has said the park is susceptible to loss of permits if they opened.
