Soap Lake School District Shares Info on Upcoming Levies
Soap Lake School District is mailing residents an informational flyer about the upcoming levies for the district. The levies, one is a replacement levy and the other is a capital project levy, will start in 2021.
"The first levy is the Educational Programs and Operation levy, this is a replacement of our Maintenance and Operations levy, it just has a new name," said Superintendent Sunshine Pray.
Currently, the M&O levy is at $2.50 and according to Superintendent Pray, the intention is to keep it at $2.50. The three year levy (2021-2023) covers what the state doesn't fund, so extracurricular activities like sports and instructional programs like Knowledge Bowl fall under this category. This levy also supports technology, such as supplying Chromebooks for the students.
"The next ask that we have is for the Safety, Security and Infrastructure levy," said Pray. "There are three main pieces to this levy. So that is a two year levy, it's $2.20 per 1,000."
School safety is the first piece and the levy would help support a redesign of the entryway at the elementary school, middle/school high school and security cameras among other features. The second piece is for the HVAC at the middle/high school and the third piece is moving the bus facility on campus.
"These are really, truly needs of our community," said Pray.
