The Chelan Douglas Homeless Task Force will support a cold weather shelter for up to 20 homeless men after voting to approve a subgrant to the People's Foundation, who will be managing the facility.

Community Development Director Glen DeVries said the roughly $58,000 grant will in part lease the upstairs portion of the Gospel House for three months starting in January.

"Last year we actually had two shelters." explained DeVries, "The challenge this year was finding locations given COVID-19. The Women's Resource Center had a women's and children's shelter last year. Unfortunately the facility didn't work out this year because of COVID concerns."

The temporary shelter will be operational starting in January, roughly a month later than last winter, mainly due to issues regarding COVID-19.

DeVries added that referrals to the shelter can be found through their coordinated entry system. That number is (509) 888-9035.
