Three individuals and a rooster are recovering after a one car accident Sunday morning on US 97 north of Daroga State Park in Douglas County.

Trooper John Bryant said 43-year-old Mario Velazquez-Vazquez was sober but driving a 2015 Honda Civic too fast when he lost control on the snow-covered highway just before 7:00 am.

"The vehicle started to slide." Bryant said, "The driver overcorrected to the left, crossed the roadway, struck an embankment and it rolled over onto its top. The driver and his passengers were able to get out of the vehicle. A good Samaritan stopped by, got them all in their car and kept them warm until aid showed up."

Velazquez-Vazquez also allegedly struck a phone box.

One passenger received minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Fire crews used extrication tools to free a rooster from the wreckage uninjured.

Velazquez-Vazquez was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Douglas County Fire District 4 and Ballard Ambulance also responded to the incident.
