A train struck a vehicle around 9:00 pm Wednesday in Monitor.

Chelan County Sheriff's Office Chief Jason Reinfeld says deputies and fire personnel responded to the 44-hundred block of Old Monitor Road to discover that a white 1999 Toyota Avalon had indeed been hit by a train.

"In interviews and speaking to witnesses, the train conductor said that the vehicle appeared to be unoccupied and high-centered on the track at the time of the collision." explained Reinfeld, "At this point we don't know who was driving the vehicle. Deputies are going to continuing doing follow up on that in an attempt to locate them."

There have been no reports of damage to the train so far. The driver of the Toyota could face hit-and-run charges.
